Designing For is a series which looks at one specific level, character, or idea in gaming and breaks down the central theme to that element to figure out what it's, well, designing for! In this episode, we take a deep dive into the creation, history, and reception of the king of cheaters, Waluigi. We delve into the character's initial frosty reception, how Camelot, Namco, Square, Hudson, and Nintendo themselves stuck with him to flesh him out, how memes and fan works rose Waluigi's star to unbelievable heights, and how we can all come around - ironically or no - on anything with real passion and love behind it.
