This video is my best shot at summarising what you need to know for absolute values in the GRE and GMAT. It will cover absolute value (sometimes called modulus) equations, absolute values and inequalities, variables inside absolute values, and variable checks.

Some key lessons:

The output of an absolute value will always be positive.

If there is a variable inside the absolute value, with an equation or inequality, you should check both the positive and negative scenarios: +( ____ ) and -( ____).

You need to do a variable check (test if the solutions work) generally only if you have a variable in an absolute equalling a variable outside an absolute.

The absolute value questions in this video will also feature some official absolute value questions and explanations.

The GRE and GMAT are two of most used graduate exams for those seeking to study a Masters Degree or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree. The Graduate Record Exam and Graduate Management Admissions Test have been taken for over 50 years and are taken by approximately 600,000 and 300,000 people worldwide annually, respectively. These exams are typically taken between the ages of 18-40, by those who have completed, or are about to complete, their Bachelors Degree.
