गोधरा में साबरमती ट्रेन के डिब्बे जलाने के मामले में गुजरात हाईकोर्ट का फैसला आ गया है. कोर्ट ने 11 दोषियों की मौत की सजा को उम्रकैद में तब्दील कर दिया है. ट्रायल कोर्ट में दोषी ठहराए गए इन आरोपियों का कहना था कि उन्हें न्याय नहीं मिला है. साल 2002 में हुई इस घटना की न्यायिक प्रक्रिया में सेशन कोर्ट से लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट तक शामिल रहे हैं. पिछले 15 साल से चले आ रहे इस केस में कई उतार-चढ़ाव देखे गए हैं.
Special judge H.C. Vora awarded life sentences to Farooq Bhana and Imran Sheru after the prosecution established their role as conspirators in setting fire to the Sabarmati Express on 27 February 2002. The court acquitted three of the accused, including Hussain Suleman Mohan, Kasam Bhamedai and Faruk Dhantiya.
The five were caught in 2015-2016 and were tried at a special court at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad.
Eight of those accused in the case are still absconding.
As many as 59 “kar sevaks” who were returning in the Sabarmati Express from the disputed religious site in Ayodhya, were charred to death when a mob torched the train near Godhra railway station
