It has a population of 245,682 people. It is located near the eastern end of the Kiel Canal, which connects the Baltic Sea to the North Sea. Many ships run in the Kiel Canal to Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Other industrial activities of the city include shipbuilding, fish processing, printing, pottery, machinery, and the production of measuring instruments. Kiel was founded in 665 AD and is an important center for naval training through Christian Albrecht University. The city of Kiel was founded by a German noble named Count Adolf IV in the thirteenth century AD. In World War II (1939 - 1945 AD), Kiel was severely destroyed. Then it was rebuilt in a modern style; Its commercial centers and economic zones with its streets are designated for pedestrians only and are considered a model for urban planning. The old section includes many cultural services.

يبلغ عدد سكانها 245,682 نسمة . تقع بالقرب من نهاية الطرف الشرقي لقناة كييل ، التي تربط بحر البلطيق ببحر الشمال . ويسير في قناة كييل كثير من السفن إلى الدنمارك والنرويج والسويد . وتشتمل الأنشطة الصناعية الأخرى للمدينة على بناء السفن ، وعمليات تصنيع السمك ، والطباعة ، وصناعة الخزف ، والآلات ، وإنتاج أدوات القياس . تأسست مدينة كييل عام 665 م وتُعد مركزا مهما للتدريب البحري من خلال جامعة كريستيان ألبرخت . ، القرن أسس مدينة كييل نبيل ألماني يدعى الكونت أدولف الرابع في الثالث عشر الميلادي . وفي الحرب العالمية الثانية ( 1939 – 1945 م ) تعرضت كييل لتدمير شديد . ثم أعيد بناؤها على نمط حدیث ؛ فمراكزها التجارية ومناطقها الاقتصادية بشوارعها خصصت للمشاة فقط وتعد نموذجا لتخطيط المدن . ويشتمل القسم القديم منها على العديد من الخدمات الثقافية .
