Her face was her fortune, but it nearly cost her life.
Deborah Hutton has one of the most recognisable faces in Australia, having graced television screens and magazine covers since the age of 16.
But two years ago, the former model and media personality was rushed in for surgery on a facial skin cancer which left her with a confronting large scar on her picture-perfect face.
No stranger to the effects of Australia’s harsh climate, having been diagnosed over the past two decades with multiple recurrent skin cancers, this was the final wake-up call that sparked Deb into action.
Now, the iconic Australian beauty is on a one-woman mission to save the nation one skin check at a time, bringing to life a campaign that shines light on the importance of prevention and skin cancer awareness.
This Sunday, in a major 7NEWS Spotlight television event not to be missed, Deb reveals the latest chapter in her deeply emotional journey with skin cancer, as she traverses the country on her plight to educate sun-loving Aussies.
Hearts will be touched by Oceana Hegyi, a 26-year-old mother-to-be who is recovering from stage 2 melanoma, and Paula Fox, another melanoma survivor and wife of trucking billionaire Lindsay Fox. These women, among many others, are following in Deb’s footsteps to make extraordinary change in the area of skin cancer awareness and prevention.
For Deb, her former life in the spotlight pales into insignificance as she comes face-to-face with the real heroes of her campaign.
“This has so much more meaning to me than half the stuff I’ve done the last 40 years… this is a different love, it has much more purpose and meaning behind it,”
