Questions are encouraged, but please read the description first! Also, apparently if you watch this video at a 30fps option (480p or below), the audio desyncs. Idk what that's about, but if the audio is desyncing for you, you may need to try a different resolution. Sorry; the file I uploaded to YT has perfect audio sync throughout.

TAS without commentary: Twilight Princess Glitchless Any% TAS...

This is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS), which differs from a normal speedrun (RTA) in that instead of playing the game in real time on a controller, I used tools such as save states, frame advance, memory watches, and a precise input interface to meticulously go through the game frame by frame and try to make the "perfect" speedrun. With these tools, I was able to manipulate RNG to be in my favor, experiment with and redo rooms until they were as fast as possible, and incorporate some extremely precise tricks that are unreasonable or downright impossible to do in real time. The TAS is on a vanilla version of the game without cheats.

A typical speedrun cannot compete with a TAS in a category of this length; this TAS beats the current RTA world record (5:19:36 by me) by a whopping 44 minutes. The point of a TAS is to showcase a run where everything goes right, and to make something entertaining to watch. I also learned a lot about the game and about TASing in general while making it, which I enjoyed a lot.

This commentary was recorded live during the stream reveal. I'm joined on commentary by Ekke, an experienced TP TASer who taught me a lot about TASing and helped me out along the way, and Simikins, a longtime Wii and Glitchless runner knowledgeable about the history of the category. Many thanks to them for their company and insights, and special thanks as well to the other TP TASers I learned from (TheTasMaster, gymnast86, Rachel, Taka, and Pheenoh) as well as the developers of the TPGZ practice tool, which was a great help for me in developing strats I could then implement in the TAS.

Answers to FAQ:

- This is done on the Korean Wii 1.2 version. Korean text is very fast, and Wii saves time over GC on loads and aiming.
- This TAS took me four months to make.
- The TP speedrunning community has two glitchless rulesets, and they are extremely similar. I used the Japanese ruleset, mostly because it allows bomb boosts. It also is a no save & quit category (not because savewarping is a glitch). For a full list of banned techniques, see this page: https://www.speedrun.com/tp?h=_JP_Gli...
- Everything in this TAS is valid for the glitchless ruleset I was using. If you feel that something I did in the TAS shouldn't be allowed in glitchless, that's okay. I may even agree with you. But it doesn't matter.
- For the most part, I used the precise input interface described above for recording inputs. But as I mention in the voiceover, I had to use a controller for shake inputs, and I also recorded some other inputs on a controller when I felt that was the more comfortable thing to do and I didn't need any crazy precise control stick angles or anything. When I did this, I used my normal GameCube controller with the buttons mapped to Wiimote + nunchuck inputs.
- I never intended to submit this to tasvideos, and ultimately, I can't anyway. As I mention in the voiceover, I redid the first ten minutes of the TAS after finishing the end because I was a total beginner when I started and was able to improve those first ten minutes significantly. This amounts to a splice, which I think is against tasvideos' rules. But there are no "official" rules for TASing.
