Making a Comanche inspired self
Making a Comanche inspired self bow using hand tools. I used seasoned black locust wood for this woodworking project. It's my first try at this specific kind of bow build. The stick ended up drawing 40-45lb at 22".
To finish this bow I used water based varnish. As a decorations I used some of my findings from the forest - a few colorful feathers. For handle and to attach feathers I used flax twine. I love how this bow build turned out!
As a traditional bowyer inspired by the heritage of our ancestors I love building bows in different styles. Each design has it's purpose and was build in a specific way for a reason. Making new bow types I learn a lot and grow as a traditional craftsman.
