Since it opened in 1836 Mount Jerome Cemetery has witnessed over 300,000 burials. Some wealthy families spent small fortunes creating impressive monuments to commemorate their dead and display their wealth. The cemetery has one of the finest collections of funerary art in Ireland. The cemetery has witnessed over 300,000 burials, the second highest number of burials of any cemetery Ireland.
