The sheer delight of a delicately nuanced Thumri is perhaps best experienced in Rashid Khan’s golden voice. At the Bengal Classical Music Festival of 2017, he swayed the audience with a melodious Pahadi Thumri, ‘Baton-baton mein beet gayi raat’. On stage, Khan’s emotional interpretation of the song-texts, and his rich and intricate music plays was splendidly accompanied by stellar musicians such as Sabir Khan on the Sarangi, Ajay Joglekar on the harmonium and Subhankar Banerjee on the tabla.
