Taren Guy leads natural beauty guru Nik Scott, simple beauty vlogger SimplyBiancaAlexa, and natural hair maven KGLifestyle in discussion as they collectively define what it means to define one’s own beauty on this episode of Defining Beauty. The Naturalistas come to an agreement that their struggles with self love, self confidence, and self esteem was a result of how “beauty” was defined to them as children. Taren talks about growing up in Harlem with a Swedish grandmother, wanting to have darker skin like her friends, and feeling like an outsider because of her differences. This sparks the women to discuss growing up in predominantly black neighborhoods and defining the women they could never look like as the beauty standard of African American beauty. The discussion of natural beauty comes full circle when each woman recounts the moment they achieved self love and how they defined beauty for themselves. Ultimately they discuss the 30 day no makeup challenge, a challenge empowering women to be no longer dependent on makeup, fake lashes, straight hair, and everything in between. This is me, this is beautiful, this is self empowerment.
