In this video, I'd like to focus my analysis on a global issue that is at the intersection of geopolitics & natural resources, specifically, uranium. Recent developments in Niger, a significant producer of uranium, have caused ripples across international boundaries and have significant implications for the global uranium supply chain.

Following a recent military coup, Italy and France have begun evacuating their citizens. The reason being is that the political climate is intensifying and becoming more unpredictable. What makes this situation globally pertinent, especially for countries relying heavily on nuclear power, is that Niger's military authorities have announced a ban on exports of uranium and gold mainly to France. This has been met with public support within Niger, with protestors claiming they no longer wish for the West to control their resources in exchange for "safety."

BTW: Uranium is a critical resource globally, used mainly for nuclear energy production but also for the manufacture of nuclear weapons. France, for instance, depends heavily on nuclear power, which accounts for nearly 70% of its total electricity production. This ban, therefore, carries substantial implications for French energy security.

Responding to the crisis, the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, a Western-aligned African bloc, has threatened military intervention. Backed by Western powers such as France and the U.S., ECOWAS's response underscores the strategic importance of uranium.

In solidarity with Niger, other African nations, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea, have voiced support, and even threatened counter-intervention should ECOWAS intervene militarily. Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim Traore, has also followed Niger's footsteps by banning uranium exports to France and the U.S.
