This inspection could lead to Tesla receiving a lower duty on cars built in China and shipped to the EU. The visit took place between June 26-28 and was shorter than other inspections this year.

Tesla is the largest exporter of Electric Vehicles from China to the EU. The European Commission did not initially select Tesla for its anti-subsidy investigation in China, but Tesla applied for individual treatment and was granted an inspection. This could result in Tesla receiving a lower duty than the average of 21 percent.

On June 12, the European Commission pre-disclosed provisional countervailing duties on imports of Battery EVs from China. The rates included 17.4 percent for BYD, 20 percent for Geely, and 38.1 percent for SAIC. Other cooperating BEV producers faced a 21 percent duty, while non-cooperating companies faced 38.1 percent.

As of July 5, the European Commission announced slightly reduced tariffs. BYD will face 17.4 percent, Geely 19.9 percent, and SAIC 37.6 percent. Other cooperating BEV producers will have a weighted average tariff of 20.8 percent, and non-cooperating companies will face 37.6 percent.
