Sewing beautiful gathers on a skirt could not be quicker or easier! I show you how to adjust the settings on your serger / overlocker to create beautiful gathers in under 5 minutes. I gathered over 70 inches in skirt width to fit a 20 inch bodice with a few pulls of the needle threads I was finished in minutes and very happy with my even gathers. You do not have to have a fancy serger or overlocker to do this. The bonus is using the serger finishes off the edges so that the fabric does not fray if you need to pull the gathers tighter. I did need to pull the needle threads to tighten the gather since I was gathering about 3.5 times width of skirt into the bodice. My settings Differential Feed 2 - This will pull the fabric through 2 times faster and will create gathers Stitch Length - use the longest stitch length you have, mine is 4 You can adjust the width depending on how wide you want the serged stitch, I used 5.5 My pattern - The Oaklyn Top and Dress by ‪@Violettefieldthreadspatterns‬ can be found here violettefieldthreads.com/products/oaklyn-top-dress I used some absolutely beautiful Cloud 9 Organic Cotton Lawn from my stash. The quality and hand feel on this fabric is amazing. I used my Baby Lock Triumph Combination Serger and Cover Stitch to gather the skirt of the dress and sewed the dress on my Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond Royale. Today I am wearing one of my favorite dresses the Nina Lee Southbank Sweater Dress using ‪@MinervaDotCom‬ exclusive French Terry Jungle Dreamer.
