🦊 In this GCSE Biology video, we look at how enzymes, which are proteins, catalyse reactions in the body, focusing on digestive enzymes that break down food into absorbable molecules. We describe the mechanism of enzyme action using the "lock and key" theory, where the enzyme's active site is complementary to the substrate's shape, allowing specific binding and reaction. Finally, we distinguish between digestive enzymes that break down substances and synthesis enzymes that build new compounds.
