STORYLINE:
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games opening ceremony came to a spectacular climax with a dazzling display of fireworks over the Maracana stadium on Friday night.
The fireworks blasted into the sky after the cauldron was lit in the Olympic stadium and the Games were declared open.
