Vmoto APD Concept Is How All Scooters Should Look Like From Now On

Until recently, when German bike maker BMW revealed the CE range of scooters, this world had little in the way of modern styling to it, and it was almost impossible to liken the shapes and form of scooters to those of full-blown motorcycles. Now, thanks to the CE 04, CE 02, and to a lesser extent the C 400 GT, scooters have become cool.

I mentioned the Germans machines because the brand-new concept scooter we're here to discuss now somehow reminds me of them. A small enough size not to be mistaken for a motorcycle, a non-compromising styling that has the exact opposite effect, and a powertrain that in the modern day could have been nothing but electric.

The scooter is called APD Concept, and was put together by Australian company Vmoto together with Pininfarina Style Centre for the 2023 ECIMA show in Milan, which will open its doors later this week.

The two have been partners for exactly a year now, but if I am not mistaken this is the first time their partnership will result in a production vehicle. That's right, the APD is a maxi scooter that will actually make it onto our roads in the near future. Maybe not in this exact form, but probably close enough to have us all wish all scooters looked a bit like this.

The two-wheeler is based on another concept shown back in 2022, and the bright blue spread here and there reminds us of that one. But that's not necessarily what catches the eyes the most.

It's the shape of the thing that makes us gasp in admiration. Somewhat resembling the Motorrad scooters when looked at from the side, it goes completely off the rails at the rear, where a design approach called Kammback was chosen.

That's something you may be familiar with from the world of cars, as it's there where it was used the most. The term stands for a sloping rear of a vehicle abruptly interrupted by a straight line. It's a feature that's been used extensively by Pininfarina, and it's also to be seen of BMWs, Ferraris, and even Shelbys.

On this scooter the Kammback rear makes the thing look like it's traveled back from the future, and has us hoping it's something that will make it onto the production version as well.

Vmoto does not detail exactly what powers the APD Concept, but given how these guys only make electric scooters at their factory in China, we're talking about some kind of EV.

All that's left to do now is wait and seen when Vmoto will decide to send this thing into production. Meanwhile, you can enjoy it all week long at EICMA in Milan.
