Rob Zahabi from Rides by Kam talks about how to keep body lines crisp during the final steps.

Why you should pin the body line (00:23)

Rob explains the importance of pinning the body line from front to back for every process.

Step 1: Start at one end, then cover with masking (01:16)

Use Scotch® Fine Line Tape 218 to pin the line, then mask over it with Scotch® Performance Green Masking Tape 233+ for a safety net when sanding.

Step 2: Go through your spline (02:05)

Use 3M™ Stikit™ Blue Abrasive Sheet Rolls 321U for your splines. Sand down to the tape, then up to the edge of the next body line. Do the reverse for the lower section.

Pro tips (02:39)

Use splines to get the crispest lines. If you hit the car with a speed file, then put a guide coat on it, then hit it with a spline, it will show things the speed file left that you couldn’t detect.

Scotch® Performance Green Masking Tape 233+ can be left on for 6 months without leaving a residue when removed.

Step 3: For concave or tight areas (03:21)

Normal sandpaper folds up and cuts little lines in. We use 3M™ Grippy Sanding Cloths, which has a grippy back for your fingers and is pliable to form into shapes you usually can’t get sandpaper into.

Important note:

There are of course many factors and variables that can affect an individual repair, so the technician and repair facility need to evaluate each specific application and repair process, including relevant vehicle, part and OEM guidelines, and determine what is appropriate for that repair.
