LB Scheme Fits
Mike | Built up to bang between the tackles, has ideal size to stack, shed and has the instincts to make stops in the run game. May have coverage skills but are secondary to the player's run defense capabilities.
Will | Typically smaller or less physical linebackers who show sideline to sideline speed and can cover tight ends, slot receivers, and backs. May have ability to engage blockers and be a factor in the run game but comes secondary to pursuit speed, diagnosing plays, and coverage.
Hybrid* | "Jack of all trades" Outside Backer type, typically larger in frame and have multi-dimmensional skillsets to hold gaps in run defense, drop into coverage, and even rush the passer from the edge.
