Yazid, sitting on the throne of Syria, was continuously expanding the scope of his rule... He immediately sought allegiance from Imam Hussain who was present in Medina... The problem was that Yazid was a spoilt king... his conduct was not good... everything that was looked upon with a bad eye in a religion and society was common in his times... When Yazid's message reached Medina, Hussain came home and took the opinion of all the members of his family and it was decided that Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet(PBUH), would not pledge allegiance to Yazid under any circumstances, Imam Hussain conveyed his decision to Yazid's governor in Medina that we will not pledge allegiance.

सीरिया के तख़्त पर बैठा यज़ीद अपनी हुकूमत के दायरे को लगातार बढ़ा रहा था...उसने फ़ौरन मदीने में मौजूद इमामे हुसैन से बैयत तलब की...मसला ये था कि यज़ीद एक बिगड़ा हुआ बादशाह था...उसके चाल चलन ठीक नहीं थे...हर वो चीज़ उसके दौर में आम थी जो एक मज़हब और समाज में बुरी नज़र से देखी जाती थी.....यज़ीद का पैग़ाम जब मदीने पहुंचा हुसैन ने घर आकर अपने ख़ानदान के तमाम लोगों से राय ली और तय हुआ कि नबी के नवासे हुसैन यज़ीद की किसी हाल में बैयत नहीं करेंगे, इमाम हुसैन ने मदीने में यज़ीद के गवर्नर को अपना फ़ैसला सुनाया कि हम बैयत नहीं करेंगे.
