Today I’m going to talk to you about inside out woodturning.
This technique consists of turning several pieces simultaneously. In general, these are blanks which are held, side by side. After a first turning to profile the blanks, they are dismantled then reversed for a second profiling.

With this method we will really expand the possibilities of woodturning.
To present this “Inside out” technique to you, I have chosen the theme of love as a common thread.
On this theme, we start with a poem about love that I asked ChatGpt to write:
Love is a flame, Which burns in the heart, And which blooms like a flower, In a secret garden.

And here the AI provided me with 3 objects taken from this poem, a heart, a flame and a flower.
I put the flame inside a tear... We never know….
ChatGpt does not yet do woodturning to my knowledge, so I will take the next step.

The purpose of this video is to introduce you to the basic principle of the dissociated or “Inside out” woodturning method. Your inspiration of the moment will, I am sure, allow you to enhance this method.
But be careful, it can make you crazy, because you no longer think in 3 dimensions, but in four dimensions in a certain way. What you turn in the first pass is not what you will get when moving the ungrouped elements at the end.

I present to you a video to get started. With 3 very easy to make objects:
- The first is a heart with a single axis of symmetry and 2 elements. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the concept.
- The second is a tulip with 4 squares, and there you will see that the method begins to show possibilities.
- The third is a tear in a flame, with 3 quarters at 120°. Aside from preparing the 3 pieces with 60° cuts, this is probably the easiest to make
