A 2 alarm house fire
A 2 alarm house fire that left one man dead was set intentionally, according to the state fire marshal's office.
Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for Mass State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, said Saturday that she could not provide more details about the fire marshal’s determination on Friday's blaze at 9 Sandra Circle. The fire started around 4:30pm.
Tim Connolly, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr., said Saturday afternoon that the state medical examiner’s office had not yet positively identified the victim. He did not provide any more details, but said the fire is still under investigation by both the district attorney office and fire marshal.
Officials confirmed the person who died was the only one home at the time. A dog was also injured in the fire, Mendon Police and Fire Chief Ernest Horn said, adding that paramedics tried to resuscitate it, but the animal died.
