Looking at a demo of a game called Elevator Warp. This game frustrated the hell out of me, but I also kind of liked it. The premise is that you take an elevator to a random floor of a building. The elevator reports what floor you're supposed to be on via the digital display... then you need to determine if you're actually on that floor by searching the room for indicators that you're not on the right floor. It doesn't matter if anything indicates that you're on the correct floor. Any hints saying anything to the contrary overrule the affirmations. I found the hints to be a bit frustrating, though. For example. You may enter a room that has a 3 on the wall. Easy enough. If you're trying to verify any floor other than 3, you have an easy rejection. However, then you may notice that there are 4 buckets in the room. That indicates that you're on floor 4 and is a rejection even if the number on the wall says 3. That sounds simple enough... but then there's other stuff in the room that just doesn't matter. 2 doors on the wall. 5 pieces of furniture. Etc. The fact that those things don't count and the number of buckets do seems very arbitrary. All that being said, it takes 2 seconds to start a new run so while there's a lot of trial and error, I did kind of have fun revisiting rooms that I'd failed before and trying to see what was changing each time versus what was staying the same. I felt compelled to not let the game beat me. And I had fun. Being frustrated kind of added to the experience. The game was my villain and I was fighting it. And it felt good to feel like I had a room completely figured out.
