Garden State Tortoise and our work with reptiles doesn’t only fall within the parameters of our personal property. We’re deeply invested in the protection of these animals even beyond the comfort zone of our home. This means we’ve dedicated a good portion of our time to conservation which not only includes snake work, it includes wild turtle work too.
Since 2018, we’ve managed to keep the Terrapin Conservation Initiative going. It’s a state permitted project aimed at protecting our local populations of northern diamondback terrapins and it’s 100% volunteer work. Being the only turtle species that’s endemic to brackish water, diamondback terrapins inhabit waterways that are directly associated with summer shore activities. This means heavy shore traffic and sadly, many of the females are crushed on our local roads as tourists flock to our beautiful shore towns. This is where we come in and in this video we’re taking you with us to save some amazing, wild turtles.

Who is Garden State Tortoise?
However you made it here, thank you and welcome to Garden State Tortoise. Garden State Tortoise is home to hundreds of animals from all around the world. We are a family dedicated to adventure, conservation of wildlife, and all things nature. We are a reptile rescue and breeding facility for more than ten years, offering refuge to those who need it, and working everyday to protect the beautiful world of reptiles in any way we can. Here on our YouTube channel you will be able to join us on our animal adventures while learning how to care for, protect, properly identify, feed and even breed many species of turtle, tortoise, snake and lizard. We even work with frogs and salamanders! We hope you enjoy our videos and help us share them with the world so we can continue to educate people of all ages about herpetology.
