The Montane Lapland Arctic Ultra
The Montane Lapland Arctic Ultra takes place on snowmobile trails in Swedish Lapland, around Överkalix and pretty much spot on the Arctic circle.
At the original race in Yukon, the racers were following tracks of the famous Yukon Quest. But in the Arctic part of Sweden, contestants will have to navigate and follow the existing trail system laid out on snowshoes, skis, or fat-bikes.
Athletes challenge themselves in races from 185 km up to 500 km, in freezing cold temperatures in the Arctic taiga, however this isn’t a story about those athletes. This is a glimpse into the work of the volunteers, the medics who care for the athlete’s safety and wellbeing during this extreme race.
