Rukmini Kalyanam "Excerpts from Jaya Kalyanakrishnam"
"Who is Krishna?", asks the little princess. Promptly delivering his role in the divine play of Sriman Narayana, Narada narrates the story of Sri Krishna, extolling His charming childhood pranks and His mighty deeds in Gokula, thoroughly alluring the little princess. As she grows, her enchantment for the unseen charmer in Gokula blossoms into a deep love. Young princess Rukmini surrenders herself to Sri Krishna and yearns to unite with Him. When her family decides for her to be wed to King Sisupala, she writes to Sri Krishna, who comes, takes her hand and whisks her away. As the enemies lay defeated, the divine wedding uniting the Lord and His consort takes place in Dwaraka.
SDN hails the wedding of Sri Krishna and princess Rukmini with a colourful dance drama presentation. 'Jaya Kalyana Krishnam' relays the story of Rukmini, who surrenders herself in 'Atma Nivedanam' (offering one’s self to the Lord) and unites with Sri Krishna.
Lyrics are adopted from Leela Sukha's 'Sri Krishna Karnamritham', Sri Vishnu Dhyana Slokam from 'Vishu Sahasranamam', 'Divya Prabandham', 'Devi Mahatmyam' along with the Tamil lyrics penned by Prof. Raghuraman. Music has been composed by Sri Embar Kannan and choreographed by Dr. Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan. This mega dance drama will be performed by 70 students of Sridevi Nrithyalaya.
