F1 Students can apply for work permits visas.

00:55 We’ll talk about F1 student Visas and the right to work. F1 visas are given to international students coming to study in the United States for full-time courses.
01:12 And under F1 student visa regulations students if they need to work they usually work up to 20 hours on campus.
01:23 But now the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services are giving certain exemptions to the regulation.
01:40 The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration issued a statement on their website which explains what unforeseen circumstances are.
01:47 If somebody overstays their visa and they cannot leave and they can be able to prove that they can get their visa extended.
02:00 The USCIS announced the right to work for F1 students due to this unforeseen circumstance of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
02:09 An example of unforeseen circumstances that happens due to the Coronavirus is not being able to pay tuition fees or there was a disaster or a pandemic like the Coronavirus and a change in a personal situation.
02:28 It maybe somebody got ill and they’re not able to go to school or if family members who are overseas are not able to send money because of the lockdown.
02:42 This is really a global pandemic and it falls under the criteria of unforeseen circumstances and you need to document these unforeseen events.
03:07 But now the USCIS is giving F1 students the opportunity to be able to apply for work so they are able to survive the pandemic.
03:28 F1 students need to apply for the work permit which is Form I-765. You also need to include your I-20 form which is the form that allows you to go to school. And that form needs to be signed and approved by the designated school official.
03:56 You have to have complete documentation to show that you are currently affected by the unforeseen circumstances.
4:11 The USCIS is going to give a lot of leeways right now because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. And these will help F1 students who have been staying in the United States for years and years especially those are studying to get a master’s degree.
04:32 It is a great opportunity right now for F1 students to apply for a work permit just temporarily to be able to survive the pandemic. This is a general work permit which is different from OPT and CPT.
