THIS IS THE SMALL IRON FARM I'M CURRENTLY RECOMMENDING!
EDIT: Make SURE to watch the video till the end BEFORE building the farm, as I discover a mistake halfway through :-)
Sometimes there's a difference between how things work on a server and in a single player world. Even when both are Vanilla. Often the only way to find out is to play in both.
I recently started playing on a new server, NOICE SMP - in the 1.17 snapshots - and much to my surprise I discovered various issues with several of my small iron farm designs - issues that has never been there in single player worlds. At first I thought it was a snapshot thing, but it wasn't: The farms worked perfectly in single player snapshots worlds - just not on the server. That prompted me to design a new small iron farm, a hybrid between three of my previous designs, thats guaranteed to work on vanilla servers. Hope you find this helpfull :-)

UPSIDE: Small! Easy to build. Easy to "conceal" in a building. Guaranteed to work on Vanilla servers and in the new 1.17 snapshots.
DOWNSIDE: Slightly bigger than my smallest ironfarm (The smallest iron farm in Minecraft) with a footprint of 5x5 blocks.
RATES: 225-250 ingots an hour.
