China’s J-10 vs French Rafale – Which would win?

The J-10 was first introduced in 2005 in Chinese air force. The aircraft has a length of 55ft, a wingspan of 32ft, and a height of 19ft. The jet has an empty weight of 10.7 tons while the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft is 21 tons. As of today, a total of 548 J-10s have been built with per unit cost of 35 to 40 million dollars. On the other hand, the work on Rafale began in the late 80s and the jet was introduced in 2001. The aircraft dimensions include a length of 50ft, a wingspan of 36ft, and a height of 17ft. The empty weight of the jet is 10 tons and it can take-off with maximum weight of 24.5 tons. As of today, 239 Rafales have been produced with average per unit cost of $85m, while the latest version was recently exported at per unit cost of around $135m. The J-10 is powered by a single afterburning turbofan WS-10 engine, producing 32,000 pounds of thrust. This engine can push the aircraft to maximum speed of Mach 2.1. The jet, with maximum fuel load, has a ferry range of 1,957mi. The aircraft can conduct combat operations within the radius of 1,616mi and get back with a safe amount of fuel. The climb rate of the J-10 is 59,000ft/min. The practical service ceiling of the aircraft is 59,000ft. The J-10 is outfitted with 11 hardpoints for external fuel and weapons payload. In contrast, the Rafale uses 2 turbofan engines producing 34,000 pounds of thrust combined. The maximum speed of the aircraft is Mach 1.8. The Rafale, with supplementary fuel tank, has a 2300mi of ferry range. The aircraft can very well reach a distance as far as 1,150mi as its combat radius and come back with safe amount of fuel. The jet has a rate of ascent of 60,000ft/min and can reach at practical service ceiling of 52,000ft. There are 14 hardpoints on the Rafale for weapons and fuel tanks. The J-10 has a huge vertical tail on top of the fuselage, small ventral fins beneath the fuselage, and a massive delta wing is located in the middle of the fuselage… Similarly, the Rafale was developed as a modern jet fighter with a very high level of agility. The latest variant of J-10 is outfitted with active electronically scanned array radar. An AESA radar is equipped with multiple 'transmit receive modules' and … On the other hand, the Rafale is equipped with Thales AESA radar, which can detect its target from 90mi. The radar can track up to 40 targets and engage 8 of them simultaneously...The J-10 is mounted with a 23mm twin-barrel cannon, capable of firing 3,600 rounds a minute. The aircraft is capable of carrying 12,300lb of weapons and equipment on its 11 hardpoints. For BVR engagements, the J-10 is armed with PL-12 and PL-15 with range of 62 and 186 miles respectively. For shorter range engagements...In contrast, the Rafale is armed with a 30mm capable of firing 2,500 rounds a minute. The aircraft can carry 20,900lb of weaponry and external fuel on its 14 hardpoints. For BVR engagements, the jet is armed with ram-jet powered meteor missile with range of 124mi. The Rafale can also fire MICA missile, which can be used for both within and beyond visual ranges. For shorter range engagements, the aircraft is mounted with Magic 2 missiles. For a strategic mission, the jet can deliver Storm Shadow and nuclear missiles. The jet can also fire precision bombs guided by both GPS and inertial navigation systems.
