The Nice Guys is a 2016 American neo-noir buddy action comedy film directed and co-written (alongside Anthony Bagarozzi) by Shane Black, produced by Joel Silver, and starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in the title roles with Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley, Keith David and Kim Basinger in supporting roles. Set in 1977 Los Angeles, the film focuses on private eye Holland March (Gosling) and tough enforcer for hire Jackson Healy (Crowe) who team up to investigate the disappearance of a teenage girl (Qualley).

Set in 1977 Los Angeles, "The Nice Guys" follows private eye Holland March, who's hired to investigate the supposed survival of a deceased porn star, Misty Mountain. His investigation entangles him with Amelia Kuttner, a woman linked to Misty's endeavors. Violent enforcer Jackson Healy is hired to deter March, but they join forces to find Amelia and unravel the mystery surrounding her. They discover Amelia's involvement in a controversial "experimental film" exposing the collusion between car makers and the suppression of catalytic converters. As they chase leads, including the film's missing footage, they become targets for a ruthless hit man named John Boy.

Amidst a series of murders and political intrigue, March and Healy navigate a web of deception that implicates high-ranking officials. Amelia's film, eventually projected at the Los Angeles Auto Show, reveals the auto executives' guilt. As the truth emerges, Healy and March expose the crimes but struggle against powerful forces. The story culminates in a rooftop showdown and the film's screening.

While March, Healy, and March's daughter Holly survive, Amelia is tragically killed. The film ends with March and Healy starting their own detective agency, "The Nice Guys," showing their resilience in a corrupt world.
