Hardfacing is a common practice
Hardfacing is a common practice for heavy equipment manufacturers to apply to metal products where they are likely to wear due to excessive friction. By applying hardfacing to items such as, tractor parts, industrial shovels, dragline buckets, and other metal products that a buildup or wear-resistant weld by means of welding or joining, one can extend the life of a part so they do not wear out quicker than intended and continue to have full functionality.
Hardfacing is most commonly done by hand where the operator will take a finished part and then add the filler material either by sub-arc process or MIG welding. This involves a bit of artistic talent by the welder generally due to the uneven surfaces and ever-changing material shape. Seasoned welders usually use field testing and basic metallurgical knowledge developed over time to understand how much heat can be applied in a given timeframe. This can be a great advantage to a business owner as a veteran of the process will be able to jump around from area to area to reduce the amount of warping to the work-piece as with any similar process, even the expert can feel the fatigue of heat and being in an uncomfortable position for extended periods of time.
CNC controlled hardfacing is a process in which an operator can oversee a machine doing the legwork. This can give the operator some relief due to the ability to stay in a comfortable position and away from the extreme elements associated with the process and best of all is the machine parameters can be initially developed by an experienced weld supervisor and passed on to a junior colleague to operate and oversee the actual process.

In addition, once the hardfacing is completed, the PNC-12 Extreme is transformed into a portable CNC plasma cutting machine and cuts the skull design out of the mild steel.
