This time, this is a video that delves deeper into the comfortable use of the thumb. There are many people who use the thumb when playing the piano, quite a bit! There may be many people who are troubled by thumbs. When playing the piano, if you can handle your thumb well, such as your thumb slipping through or your thumb overtaking your thumb, you can master various techniques. But you're insensitive, thumbs. Of course my thumb is insensitive... The thumb is a completely different finger from the other fingers. Let's see how it's different. Our finger bones look like this. Each bone has a name. Let's take the index finger as an example. The four fingers other than the thumb are composed of the same bone. The first bone is called the distal phalanges, then the middle phalanx, and the basal phalanx. I think this is the part that we recognize as fingers on a daily basis, but there is another bone called metacarpal bone in the finger. In other words, the fingers start a little before the wrist. Try to hold your hand slowly. When you make a fist, the third joint, called the MP joint, comes out clearly. Let's move our fingers from this third joint. You can bend and twirl. On the other hand, what about the second joint? The second joint can only flex in one direction. Let's also look at the first joint. Like the second joint, it only bends in one direction. Let's take a look at the thumbs. Compared to the other four fingers, one less bone is a characteristic of the thumb. On the thumb, there is no middle phalanges. So the MP joint of the thumb becomes the second joint here. The MP joint seen with the index finger, that is, the third joint, was able to make various movements. Doesn't your thumb feel awkward to move in comparison? Actually, the MP joint of the thumb moves like any other finger, but the third joint of the thumb moves very well. So it feels like we can only bend in one direction. In other words, it is very difficult to make a downward movement to hold down the keyboard. However, we are deceived by the appearance of the MP joint of the other fingers and try to lower the finger down from the second joint of the thumb, which is difficult to move downwards. Then, the hand will look like this. And there are people who have pain near the thumb. This is how to play dangerous. This is where the joints that make it easiest to move the thumb downwards are. Around the front of the wrist, this is the third joint of the thumb. The thumb moves very comfortably when moved from here.
