(4K) Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 Wellington (via Auckland) - Sydney, NSW, Australia | December 2023

Wednesday 27 December 2023 summer holiday trip experience to Sydney.
It started with the 1st Air New Zealand flight for the day from Wellington to Auckland (Flight NZ402, on an Airbus 320D plane). This flight is the 1st scheduled flight for the day, departing at 6:00 am and arriving in Auckland at 7:00 am (scheduled arrival time 7:05 am though the aircraft can easily do it in 45 minutes if they push the aircraft). Its great to see Air NZ change up their snacks menu (almonds or vegan cookie).
Arriving at Auckland Domestic Terminal at just after 7:05 am, our bags were automatically transferred to the Auckland International Terminal... sweet. Its an easy 8 minute walk to the International Terminal.
Upon arriving at the Auckland International Terminal, I had some breakfast. We allowed plenty of time for safety as Auckland International Airport does randomly get super busy. After clearing Aviation Security for international travellers, I captured a 4K walk video using my DJI Osmo Pocket 3. I love the atrium at Auckland International terminal. Blue string thingys dangling beautifully off the high ceiling along with the birds, nature and plants inside a spacious building. And tall floor to ceiling windows to see the giant plane classes that are too big for any other airport in New Zealand.
We then assembled waiting for our boarding time at around 10:20 am, with a scheduled departure time of 11:05 am NZT. With a scheduled arrival time in Sydney of 12:30 pm (Sydney time). The plane was running 10 minutes late, only because it was full, no biggy, and we've heard worse stories of being significantly delayed or cancelled due to storm/fog/operations. I enjoyed the flight experience. I chose the Lamb option meal (one of two, pretty much everyone chose the lamb option), an OJ, and we got a Kapati premium ice-cream (salted caramel). We then experienced some fun turbulence on our slow descent into Australia. Before landing safely in Sydney and Australian soil.
Air New Zealand only operates one direct flight to Sydney from Wellington, and instead of being 6:30 am in the morning, they've pulled it back to after 3:00 pm in the afternoon, not arriving in Sydney til 4:45 pm, on an Airbus 320neo. Being mindful of the time we wanted in Sydney, I opted like everyone else (who lives in Wellington or Christchurch) who usually fly up to Auckland International Airport which is the biggest airport in New Zealand, where the big planes like the 777-200 and 787-9 go.
Weather in Australia this summer has been unusual. Its meant to be sunny like everyday in summer which for New Zealand & Australia, is December - February. The Gold Coast was hit with flooding too. If you want perfect weather, Perth is the only place where its sunny like everyday - fact.
Arrived in Sydney NSW Australia December 27, 2023, and flew back to New Zealand January 11, 2024. Over the next 2 months, I'll be editing and sharing videos from my 2 week holiday in Australia.
It took me 12 hours to edit this video, ahhh... Life of a YouTuber who creates and shares content for free. New Zealand citizens can move to Australia to school or work, as easy as pie, thanks to the relationship between Australia & New Zealand.
- Australia pays higher wages, cheaper GST (10% instead of NZ's 15%).
- Groceries are drastically cheaper than NZ (even our own Sanitarium Weet Bix etc, berries are around $2 instead of $10 in NZ, and last longer).
- High frequency double decker train service from the Airport to the City that doesn't shutdown with bus replacements over the new year period like Auckland.
- Significantly cheaper public transport in Sydney compared with NZ (ferry rides average $6 instead of $60 in NZ).
- Double Decker trains, modern light rail, driverless trains, Sea Life, Opera House, Bondi, Manly, Blue Mountains, Luna Park, Harbour Bridge, NYE, Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. What's there not to like about Sydney/Australia? Sydney weather this summer, was better than the Gold Coast. My regards go towards the Gold Coast... never give up people ^u^.
