Patient Monitoring System | ICU Patient Monitor | The Engineering behind it.
The patient Monitoring is observation of vital signs of the Patient over a period of time. Generally, 5 Parameters are taken while monitoring critical care patients. These are as followed :-
1.ECG(Electrocardiogram) ;
2.NIBP(Non-invasive Blood Pressure) ;
3.Temperature(Periferal and Rectal) ;
4.IABP(Intera Arterial Blood Pressure) ;
5.Spo2(Saturation of Oxygen in Patient) / Pulse Oximetry ;
1.ECG:- ECG shows the electrical activity of the heart. It takes the electrical signals of the subject to the acquisition system. Which converts it into Electro Cardiogram.
2.NIBP:-Non-Invasive Blood Pressure gives the idea of systolic and diastolic pressure. Which are required for analysis of patient condition.
Here, the Patient Monitor uses the sound waves as signal for measurement of systolic and diastolic pressure.
3.Temperature:- Temperature is an vital parameter for knowing metabolism and other medical condition of the patient.
The patient Monitor uses a transducer which is based on bridge rectification/Whetstone Bridge (diode or Resistance can be used for different arrangement ) .
4.IABP:-Intera Arterial Blood Pressure helps in early detection of interaoperative hypotension and proper graph of Arterial pressure waveform.
5.Spo2:-It helps in determining the total oxygenation level in the blood.
It gives the idea wheather the patient is Respiratory acidic or Metabolic Acidoic.
