Singapore is one of the most high-tech cities in the world. However, due to its hot climate and low altitude, the island city-state is the fifth country in the world most likely to face extremely high water scarcity by 2040. The government itself, like many environmental organizations, is aware of this problem and is actively trying to solve it, starting with saving a valuable resource and ending with the development of innovative technologies. But how exactly high technology and human ingenuity can solve the problem of water scarcity? Even before independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore suffered severely from water shortages. The only reservoir, MacRitchie Reservoir, could not meet all the needs, despite its modernization and significant expansion. The government even had to divide the country into seven regions and alternately turn off the water in each of them so that residents of other areas can use the water.
