Sayanagi Island belongs to Tadotsu Town in Kagawa Prefecture. It's 1.83km² in size and has a perimeter of 6.6km. As of 2021, less than 60 people call it home. One of the island's top attractions is the cats that jump across the gaps in the sea walls. Tourists love watching these kitties leap from one wall to another.
Island Cat Rules
While visiting the Cat Island, please mind these rules:
Take your rubbish with you.
Don't go onto people's properties to take photos.
Only give the cats a bit of food that they can eat in one go (so it doesn't become litter).
Don't feed the cats in the middle of the path, it's a bit risky.
Accommodation: Cat Island Hostel + Cat Island Cafe
The Cat Island Hostel and Cafe are set in an old timber school building from 1954. There are four types of rooms:
DATA & DRAWING Room
Suitable for 1-3 guests. No en-suite bathroom, so you'll need to use the shared facilities. If there's three of you, one will get an extra bed. $55 a head, mate (GST included), and it can fit between 1-3 guests.
LIBRARY & SCIENCE Room
This one's for 1-4 guests. No bathroom in the room, so you'll use the shared ones. If four of ya are staying, two will get extra beds. $55 per person (including GST), fitting 1-4 guests.
There's also a separate facility with toilets and showers. None of the dormitory or private rooms have en-suite bathrooms, so use the shared facilities. All the toilets have those fancy bidet features. The showers have basins and hairdryers. Any questions, just ask the staff.
