Construction of 1,200 meters of
Construction of 1,200 meters of Corkelast edilon)(sedra STS (Slab Track System) at the TCT Venlo Container Terminal in a turnaround of only 10 working days!
Growth in logistics and assurance of a well maintained container terminal stimulated the need for renewal of the rail transport system at Trimodal Container Terminal Venlo (TCT Venlo) in The Netherlands.
Consequently TCT Venlo asked edilon)(sedra, via rail system builder Dura Vermeer Rail Infra b.v. to construct 1,200 meters of edilon)(sedra STS (Slab Track System) at the terminal. In close cooperation with the main contractor and engineering company Movares edilon)(sedra successfully completed this track in the summer of 2013 in a turnaround of only 10 working days.
Challenges of this project:
- Due to container trains, reach stackers and container trucks there exists heavy axle loads. Reach stackers transport containers up to 32,500 KG. Front axle load may be up to 100,000 KG;
- During the installation process the container terminal remained in 24/7 operation;
- Stringent regulations for safety protocols (safety briefings, safe driving route on the terrain, etc);
- High subsoil stability and stiffness under the track and secure preparation of new leveling split layer.
