CLARK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Surveillance video shows the moment a school bus driver lost control and overturned Monday.

Stephanie Burns, 32, was cited for that accident in the Western Brown School District.

OSHP says Burns drove off the right side of Sodom Road near Liming Lake Road at about 4:15 p.m. The bus went into the ditch line. Burns then overcorrected, causing the bus to slide off the left side of the road and hit a ditch, according to investigators.

Christina Meade has a daughter who typically rides that bus home with the exception of Monday.

“Thank God that she had an MRI to be at Children’s Hospital because she would have been on the school bus, and who knows what would have happened?” Meade said. “We got a phone call -- it was on our way home, back on our way home -- and we got a phone call saying that the school bus was flipped over by our house and just thinking, like, oh my gosh, thank God she was not on there.”

Meade said her 6-year-old daughter is now afraid to ride the bus.

“She already asked me this morning -- she’s like, 'Mommy, will you pick me up from school today? I don’t want to be on the bus,'” Meade said. “She was worried about everybody on the school bus."

With precious cargo traveling the buses daily, Meade has a message for drivers:

“I just think these bus drivers need to pay attention to what’s going on and, you know, these kids are in their hands, so I think safety needs to be a little bit more brought to their attention,” Meade said.

Thirteen students were on the bus. Two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Local 12 did pose questions to the Western Brown Local Schools District to learn the employment status of the bus driver along with the process to hire and train the bus drivers in the district. We have yet to hear back.
