This medium sized container ship is completing cargo at No 4 West Swanson Dock in Melbourne. She heads down the dock before turning into the River Yarra, under the Westgate Bridge and into Port Phillip Bay. After clearing the Port Melbourne Channel speed is increased to 21 knots for the 23 mile transit to Hovell Beacon and the entrance to the South Channel. There is a near miss with a fisherman at 8 minutes 47 seconds. The rip is negotiated against a strong flood tide before the Pilot is disembarked and the vessel proceeds to sea.
