Welcome to The Blue Mouse Knits! Today I'll be teaching you how to work the long tail cast on without a slip knot.  This cast on works for both flat or in the round projects. I predominantly use my left hand for this cast on, but I am left handed so it's not specific to left or right handed, as well as continental or english. This cast on is my go to for almost every project, it's very versatile and easy to work once you've done it a few times. The hardest part about this cast on is estimating the tail in the beginning, my rule of thumb is to estimate 3-4x (4x usually), unless I'm working something with a lot of stitches where I will go up to 5x the desired width/length. Unless you are playing yarn chicken I always suggest airing on the safe side and using more yarn than you might think you'll need. It's better to cut off an extra 8" of yarn than to run out before you get the correct amount of stitches.
