The peroxide ion is two oxygen atoms covalently bonded together, WITH two extra electrons compared to usual (that's why the charge is -2). This also means you need to draw the lewis structure in square brackets to show that the particle is charged. It is a SINGLE covalent bond holding the two oxygen atoms together.
