Once upon a time, there was a train called sealdah duronto between sealdah and new Delhi. It took less time than the Howrah Rajdhani to cover the distance between kolkata and delhi. The train was impeccably clean, the service was of the highest order, they served continental dinners even in Ac two and three tiers, and most importantly, the train was punctual, almost to a fault. Often, it was even before schedule. All this was true, once upon a time.

This compilation presents highlights from a full journey aboard the New Delhi Sealdah Duronto Express, undertaken way back in July 2013. The train had a departure time of 2005 back then, and would reach Sealdah at 1225 sharp. These were also the days of my night railfanning - when I would sit up, often through the night, to gaze out of the window and watch stations and trains fly by. Enjoy the Duronto's blazing run through north and eastern India, including a fair skip of Allahabad, and a slow skip of Gaya and an absolutely blazing run between Mughal Sarai and Gaya, and subsequently, Dhanbad and Sealdah. Enjoy the lush greenery of the Chhota Nagpur Plateau and the Gurpa Gujhandi Ghats. Enjoy the tiny 5 coach absolute flop show Howrah Double Decker, led by a Howrah WAP7. Enjoy the Ranchi Shatabdi in its ICF avatar, curving into the Pradhan Khunta loop, led by a Howrah WAP4, for this was all true, once upon a time...
