Welcome to Sukshema Kitchen! We're making Mysore's traditional, signature dish, the world famous Mysore Pak today. The sweet can be made crispy or melt in your mouth soft as per your liking. The softer ghee version is sometimes called 'Mysurpa'. Both versions are equally tasty and are equally popular in Karnataka.

Mysore Pak originated in the city of Mysuru, one of the major cities in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is made of generous amounts of oil/ghee, sugar, and gram flour, and sometimes cardamom. Paaka or extreme sweet, refers to the sticky sugar syrup in which the gram flour is heated to obtain the sweet.

History: The Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar (1884–1940), was a food connoisseur and maintained a large kitchen at the Mysore palace. Mysore Pak is credited to his chief chef, Kakasura Madappa, who desperate to present something new, added gram flour, ghee and sugar, and made a soft paaka (or mixture). This was presented on the royal thali as a hot, fudge-like sweet. The chef was called in and asked what the new dessert was called. He said the first thing that came to his mind - the 'Mysore pak'.
