Devil's Food Chocolate Cream Cake (Chocolate Creme)

A Devil's Food cake with a white creme in the middle makes a delicious, family-favorite cake! This cake is similar to a Whoopie Cake. Recipe: For the layers just prepare as the box indicates any DEVILS FOOD CAKE MIX. (Example… Duncan Hines or Pillsbury) I either cook 2 round cakes and split in half or one 9 x 13 cake and cut in half and then half again. Whether the cake is round or square I have 4 thin layers. (I have also done 9x13 long cake and split in half. Then you will only have 2 layers long layers.) They split better and ice better if been in freezer a bit… 2. FOR THE WHITE CREAM FILLING Spray a boiler with Pam, then add… 4 T. flour (kind of heaped up) 1 c. milk (add milk slowly while whisking out the lumps) (any kind of milk) Place on a medium stove top. Stir continuously until this gets thick. (It will look like glue.) Let it cool completely (very important) I usually do this step while my layers are baking and set it off the stove to cool or put in the refrigerator until cool. IT HAS TO BE COOL FOR IT TO WORK! Trust me on this! In a separate bowl... CREAM with mixer items below… 1 stick of softened butter (NOT melted) 1/2 c. Crisco (or shortening) 1 c. sugar 1 T. vanilla flavoring (Tablespoon, not teaspoon) THEN add to the mixer bowl the cooled cream that you cooked on the stove. It will whip up in just a minute and it is ready. 3. FOR THE FUDGE FROSTING You have 2 options…. Buy Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Chocolate Fudge Icing in a can if want to save time. To me it’s the best. OR: Cook a Fudge Icing on the stove. 4. Frost between 3 of the layers with the white cream filling. Frost sides and top of the cake with the Fudge Frosting. Either Fudge is good as to me it is the creamy white filling that makes this cake taste like a whoopie pie!
