"Deșteaptă-te, române!" (Awaken, Romanian!) is the national anthem of Romania.
The lyrics were composed by Andrei Mureșanu (1816–1863) and the music was popular (it was chosen for the poem by Gheorghe Ucenescu, as most sources say). It was written and published during the 1848 revolution, initially with the name “Un răsunet”. It was first sung in late June in the same year in the city of Brașov, on the streets of Șchei quarter. It was immediately accepted as the revolutionary anthem and renamed “Deșteaptă-te, române”.
Since then, this song, which contains a message of liberty and patriotism, has been sung during all major Romanian conflicts, including during the 1989 anti-communist revolution. After that revolution, it became the national anthem, replacing the communist-era national anthem "Trei culori". From 1991 to 1994, it also served as the national anthem of Moldova.

Poezia Răsunet (în manuscris Unu răsunetu) a fost publicată în numărul 25 din 21 iunie 1848 al revistei „Foaie pentru minte, inimă și literatură” avându-l ca autor pe Andrei Mureșanu. Se presupune că este un ecou, un răspuns, o replică la poezia Către români a lui Vasile Alecsandri, publicată în numărul 21 din 24 mai 1848 al aceleiași reviste.

Deșteaptă-te, române! (Éveille-toi, Roumain !) est l'hymne national de la Roumanie écrit par Andrei Mureșanu (1816-1863), poète de facture romantique, journaliste, traducteur, un véritable tribun de l'époque marquée par la Révolution de 1848. La musique a été choisie parmi plusieurs chansons par Gheorghe Ucenescu (1830-1896), chanteur et professeur de musique, disciple et collaborateur d'Anton Pann.
Le poème Un răsunet (Un écho) d'Andrei Mureșanu, rédigé et publié pendant la Révolution de 1848 à Brașov, a été mis en musique en quelques jours seulement, puisqu'il a été chanté pour la première fois fin mai 1848 dans cette ville (la Révolution a commencé le 11 juin). Le poème deviendra hymne sous le titre Deșteaptă-te, române!, en remportant aussitôt un succès important, grâce à son message énergique et stimulant.
Dès lors, cet hymne a été chanté lors de tous les conflits importants, étant donné le message de patriotisme et de liberté qu'il véhicule. Ce fut le cas notamment lors de la révolution roumaine de 1989, remplaçant du même coup l'hymne communiste Trei culori (Trois couleurs). Ce fut aussi l'hymne national de la Moldavie de 1991 à 1994.
