How I tell the difference between my thoughts and God speaking.

In the past I believe I was too quick to think that God was speaking to me. But it wasn't just me. I was part of a church culture that was too quick to conclude, with confidence, that a thought was from God. I hope I don't confuse you at all about this. I absolutely believe that God speaks to us individually at times and I have had some very important moments where God has spoken to me. But I have learned not to depend on that for my sense of spiritual well-being and not to be too quick to assign my own thoughts to God.
