Gulfem Hatun was born around
Gulfem Hatun was born around 1497. After so many years, it is difficult to say anything about its origin. The data that are known contradict each other. Some sources indicate her belonging to the Sicilians or Poles. And her real name is called Rosalina or Rosalina.
In the harem book, Abdurrahman or Abdullah is recorded as her father - this means that the girl arrived as a slave and was converted to Islam. According to other versions, the second concubine of Suleiman was the daughter of an Albanian prince and her name was Aishe.
Gulfem Hatun spent her entire adult life in the harem of Sultan Suleiman. The harem book indicates that the girl got there in 1511. She managed to interest the young Suleiman, to become his second favorite. And in 1513 she gave him a son - shehzade Murad. However, after the boy died at the age of 8, Suleiman lost interest in her as a woman and she ceased to be his favorite concubine.
