Act 1:

Willmore, the titular "Rover," arrives in Naples with his friends Blunt and Frederick. He meets Florinda, a young Spanish noblewoman, and instantly falls in love.

However, Florinda is betrothed to the wealthy and pompous Don Antonio.

Willmore devises a plan to win Florinda, posing as a fortune teller and manipulating events to his advantage.

Act 2:

Hellena, Florinda's witty and independent sister, encounters Willmore's friends. A mutual attraction sparks between her and Blunt.

Willmore disguises himself as a beggar and gains access to Florinda's chamber, declaring his love and promising to free her from her unwanted marriage.

Act 3:

Willmore exposes Don Antonio's cruel past and orchestrates a duel between them, ensuring Antonio's defeat.

Florinda's father attempts to arrange a new marriage for her, this time to the ruthless Prince of Messena.

Willmore reveals his true identity and, with the help of his friends, hatches another plan to rescue Florinda.

Act 4:

Hellena, disguised as a boy, joins Willmore and his crew on a daring ship raid. They capture the Prince of Messena's vessel and rescue Florinda.

Act 5:

In a series of comedic twists and turns, love triumphs. Willmore and Florinda overcome all obstacles and declare their love.
