In Excel, the trend function is a statistical function that calculates the linear trend line based on the given linear information set

For the given linear equation, y = m*x + c

Known_y’s = It is a necessary argument that represents the set of y-values that we already have in the dataset as current information following the relationship y = mx + c.

Known_x’s = It is an optional argument representing a set of x-values of the same length as the set of known y's. If this argument is ignored, the known x set will take the value (1, 2, 3, etc.

New_x’s = It's an optional argument. These are the numerical numbers representing the value of the new x. If the argument of the new x is omitted, it is set to be equal to that of the known x.

Const = It is an optional argument specifying if the constant value c is equal to 0. If const is TRUE or omitted, c will usually be calculated. If false, c will be taken as 0 (zero), and m values will be adjusted to y = mx.

#1 - The current historical information containing the known values of X and Y must be linear information which should match the linear curve y = m*x+c for the specified values of X, otherwise, the yield or the predicted values may be incorrect.

#2 - In excel, the TREND function produces # VALUE! Error if the given known values of X or Y are non-numeric or if the new X value is non-numeric and also if the const argument is not a Boolean value (TRUE or FALSE).

#3 - In Excel the TREND function produces # REF! X and Y known error values that are of varying lengths.
