Have an old legacy laptop
Have an old legacy laptop with no floppy drive, no CD drive, and no USB port? No problem. This is a step-by-step guide to installing Windows 95 onto a Toshiba Portege 620CT, which came out in 1996.
Special notes:
Due to the age of this laptop, it would not recognize the blank SSD that I connected to it. I had to perform the install on the original HDD. Only afterwards could I clone the drive onto an SSD (not shown in this video) and the laptop would boot.
What you will need:
Modern PC
External enclosure for connecting the HDD to a modern PC (via USB) - https://amzn.to/3oBP3ak
Windows 98SE (for setup) - winworldpc.com
Windows to be installed (e.g. Windows 95)
Software:
Disk partitioning software (e.g. Disk Management, built into Windows)
Zip extraction tool (also built into Windows or 7-zip)
CD burning software (also built into Windows)
CD mounting software (e.g. Virtual CloneDrive)
An outline of the steps involved:
Remove the HDD
Prepare the HDD
Install Windows
Enjoy the results
Reassemble the laptop
This guide can be used for many laptops, including Toshiba Portege models: 610CT, 620CT, 650CT, 3010CT, 3020CT, 3440CT, 3480CT, 3490CT, etc.
Too bad Toshiba spun off their PC business last year.
