On Valentine's Day 1994, two women (Kerrie Pang & Fatma Ozanal) were found in a burning massage parlour in Sydney. The owner had been stabbed while her employee had been shot three times. It appeared that the manager was the target in the frenzied attack. Her husband told police she'd been receiving threats prior to her life being taken, but whether it was a disgruntled client or a rival business, he was unsure. As investigators delved into the manager's past and her final movements, all was not what it seemed. The attacker had started the fire to destroy any evidence but investigators were able to pick through the ashen remains and uncover the truth ... a truth that would not only lead to her killer but to a murder spree spanning 10 years. Lindsay Robert Rose shot and killed Fatma Ozonal and then attacked his former girlfriend Kerrie Pang at Pang's massage parlour, "Kerrie's Oasis" in Gladesville. Ronald Waters was paid $500 to assist Rose by knocking on the door and gain access to the premises (Pang would have recognised Rose). The murder of Pang had been arranged by her de facto partner Mark Lewis. He was later found guilty of both murders and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole and 18 years for the murders of Pang and Ozonal. Waters pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder and was sentenced to 18 months periodic detention. Evidence led at Lewis' trial indicated that the motive for Pang's murder was difficulties in Lewis and Pang's relationship and Lewis' dissatisfaction with Pang's line of work as well as Rose's reported hatred of Pang. Ozonal was not part of the murder plan and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. On 18 June 1998 Rose pleaded guilty to five murders, including those of Pang and Ozonal and Bill Cavanaugh, in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. On 3 September 1998 Rose was sentenced to five consecutive terms of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
